Bishop, Imam convene press meet, condemn attempts to destroy communal harmony in Kerala

Kottayam: CSI Central Kerala Bishop, Dr. Malayil Sabu Koshy Cheriyan, and Thazhathangadi Juma Masjid Imam, Shamsudeen Mannani Ilavupalam, have convened a press meet here on Wednesday amidst the controversy over Pala Bishop’s ‘narcotic jihad’ remark.

They have alleged that some forces are trying to shatter communal harmony in the state by using social media and other means.

“We shouldn’t turn enemies at any cost. The distance between the two communities is growing day by day. Somebody is behind this. Kerala needs peace and love not call for war and revenge,” said the Imam while addressing the media.

Bishop Dr Malayil Sabu Koshy Cheriyan urged everyone to uphold communal harmony in Kerala.

“We should oppose drug abuse. It is a crime irrespective of religion. People who commit mistake should be punished not the society,” he added.

Both the religious leaders addressed the joint press meet at the Bishop house here.
