Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala BJP state President K Surendran has been booked on the charge of showing disrespect to the national flag. Thiruvananthapuram museum police have registered a case against Surendran and some people who could be identified following a controversy related to the Independence Day celebrations here on Sunday.
Surendran unfurled the tricolour upside down while celebrating Independence Day at the party-state committee office here on Sunday.
The incident came to light after visuals of the Independence Day celebration circulated on social media.
Surendran started hoisting the flag upside down but realised the mistake mid-way. With this, Surendran and the BJP members dragged the flag down and hoisted it the right way.
Police registered the case against Surendran after receiving a complaint about the incident.
Police also examined the visuals of the incident.
