Thiruvananthapuram: The Cabinet on Thursday decided to revamp the minority scholarship shares following the recent Kerala High Court verdict. The new proportion will be based on the 2011 census data.

However, the government allowed an additional Rs. 6.2 crore to the existing fund so that more scholarships can be given. “The number or the amount of scholarships will not be reduced for the current beneficiaries,” states the press release.

Earlier, the scholarship which was meant for the Muslim community were given to some sections of Christians as well. However, the court opined that the scholarship has to be given based on the population. Following this, the government had appointed an expert committee to determine the amount of scholarship.
