Kerala to vaccinate all pregnant women with 'Mathrukavacham' campaign

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Health Minister Veena George has declared a new campaign titled 'Mathrukavacham' will be launched to vaccinate all pregnant women in the state. As a part of the campaign, Asha workers in each ward will be assigned to complete the registration of all pregnant women for vaccination.

Those who can register themselves will be encouraged. Others who do not have access to smartphones or computers will be assisted by Asha workers. The health workers in each locality should confirm that all pregnant women are vaccinated.

Special vaccination camps will be scheduled on specific days for the pregnant women in each district. Arrangements will be made to avoid contact of the pregnant women with other people in the vaccination centres.

If pregnant women get infected with Covid-19, they will have serious health issues. women above 35 years and suffering from conditions like obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure will have major complications. It may also affect the health of the baby. Hence it is important to get vaccinated during pregnancy.

As of now, any vaccines using in the nation is safe for pregnant women too.

The vaccine can be taken at any stage of pregnancy. It is better to take both vaccines as soon as possible during the period of pregnancy itself. But if one gets infected by Covid-19 during the pregnancy, she should take the vaccination only after delivering the baby. The vaccine should be taken only after three months of recovery from the disease.Vaccinated people may have a fever, body pain or fatigue for one to three days.

Even after taking the vaccine, everyone must wear a mask, sanitise hands frequently and follow social distancing norms, alerted the health minister.
