She is also a good singer and theatre artist.
Anjana is the daughter of Cherthala municipality 9th ward residents Surendran and Usha.She is pursuing her post-graduation in physical education from Nagpur University.
Anjana had been meeting her educational expenditure by earning income from various jobs. Apart from being independent, this girl aims to give financial support to her family.
Anjana’s fight to survive begins early morning every day. At sharp 8’o clock in the morning, she will reach the fish stall situated in the town. From 8 am to 2 pm, she supplies fish to the customers.
After 2 pm, she will take up a new role at the cash counter in charge of a tea shop close to the fish stall. She used to find time for her studies during duty hours at the cash counter. Anjana joined the fish stall recently to find extra income.
As a folk singer, Anjana performed in many stages before the COVID period. She is one of the main members of ‘Chandiroor Maya’, a group of folk artistes. Anjana and her group are also engaged in teaching folk songs to students in various schools for 8 years.
Anjana is also an expert in making decorative items using ‘Kuruthola’ (tender coconut leaves). This talent also helps her to earn a small income.
She is also a good theatre artiste since her school days.
Anjana joined PG in physical education after completing BA economics from Amabalapuzha Govt. College. Earlier, she used to raise a good income through stage shows. She purchased a two-wheeler with this income. But as the stage shows got cancelled amid lockdown, Anjana was unable to repay the vehicle loan.
Her father is ill for the past 10 years. Mother has been doing coolie works to make both ends meet. But her income is not sufficient to meet the expenditure of the family. Observing this, Anjana came forward to do all kinds of jobs.
She is not hesitant to sell fish even at the houses of her students. "Doing a job is a matter of dignity," said Anjana proudly.
