Tree felling took place across the state, reports high-level probe team


Kozhikode: Trees were felled and smuggled from forests across the state using a fake government order, reported the high-level probe team in charge of the Muttil tree felling case. It is found that tree felling was widely carried out on government’s poramboke land and forest land in various districts.

In the FIR filed into the case, the high-level probe team headed by Crime Branch chief S Sreejith pointed out that the trees were felled claiming that the government issued an order for the same. In a major finding, it is revealed that officials and contractors conspired tree felling.

Rosewood and teak which are known as royal trees were widely chopped and smuggled from various districts. In the FIR, the probe team booked conspiracy charges against the accused.

The FIR was registered on June 15. Hence, the probe team will investigate on tree felling that took place till this date.

The preliminary investigation revealed that officials are hand in glove with the contractors to execute the crime. Meanwhile, the FIR didn’t hint about a probe against any political leadership. But the political leadership may also come under scanner due to the allegations. Earlier, the opposition also demanded to investigate the political links behind the case.
