Thiruvananthapuram: Revenue Minister K Rajan has justified his department over the controversial Muttil tree felling incident. The minister asserted that no lapses occurred on the part of the department in the matter. He pointed out that the order issued by principal secretary A Jayathilak for a noble cause was misinterpreted.
“All departments equally share the responsibility of the issues related to the tree felling. The revenue department is not responsible for any lapses.An order was issued to resolve the lack of clarity in this matter. But now, heated discussions are being carried out by misinterpreting this order. The government has been considering the problems of farmers. So, a suitable decision will be taken after holding talks,” said the minister.
At the same time, he pointed out that the issue should not be examined as a quarrel between ministers or departments.
“If anyone has misused the order, their names will be revealed in the probe. The government is not worried about it,” he added.
When the tree felling case discussed in the assembly, the revenue minister sought a report from Wayanad district collector. The report revealed that forest wealth was not looted. The government is expecting to get a clarification on the tree felling with the completion of the initial investigation.
At the same time, the minister informed that CPI didn’t discuss the issue yet. He added that CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran will explain the party’s stance on the issue.
