Thiruvananthapuram: An old report of vigilance has revealed that forest conservator NT Sajan, who is accused of trying to sabotage rosewood tree felling case, had involvement in similar cases.
The vigilance probe against NT Sajan while serving as Kasaragod range officer in 2001 revealed the matter. In the inquiry report, Kasaragod vigilance unit claimed that Sajan offered help to illegally operated sandal oil factories.
Mathrubhumi News has obtained a copy of this report.
NT Sajan’s name is also mentioned in the list of officials who supported the 7 illegal sandal oil factories in Kasaragod. In the report, the vigilance urged the government to take disciplinary action against Sajan. Following the vigilance report, the forest department ordered an inquiry against Sajan. But no further action was taken against him.
Senior forest official NT Sajan has been facing a probe over felling and smuggling of rosewood trees worth Rs 15 crore at Muttil in Wayanad. It is alleged that he helped the accused to smuggle the trees from Muttil.
Earlier, attempts were made to appoint assistant forest conservator Sajan as forest vigilance north zone conservator. But forest minister AK Saseendran intervened to cancel the decision.
