Kozhikode: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) will probe into the controversial Muttil tree felling case. Initiating the probe, the ED has forwarded a letter to the forest department seeking details of the tree felling. It is learned that the forest department received the letter on June 3.

ED has sought copies of the complaint related to the tree felling, FIR, Mahazar and other details collected so far. But neither the forest department nor the government responded to ED’s letter even after a week.

It is hinted that the forest department is delaying the response in anticipation of the political decision over the case. Before submitting the details to the ED, the department wants the government to make a decision on the matter.

In the letter to the forest department, ED claimed that they need to probe on black money transaction behind the tree felling. Trees worth crores were cut and transported from Muttil.

ED has taken action over the case after examining the chances of black money deal behind the transaction of crores. If the forest department keeps on neglecting the letter, ED will handle the case legally. If so, ED is likely to serve a notice to the forest department.
