Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala reported 17,328 new Covid cases on Saturday, informed a press release issued by the health department. With 209 new fatalities, the death toll mounted to 9719.The test positivity rate was recorded at 14.89 percent.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Thiruvananthapuram- 2468, Malappuram- 1980, Palakkad- 1899, Kollam- 1787, Ernakulam- 1769, Thrissur- 1582, Kozhikode- 1497, Alappuzha- 1212, Kottayam- 822, Kannur- 684, Kasargod- 520, Pathanamthitta- 472, Idukki- 395, Wayanad- 241.
A total of 1,16,354 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. In total, 2,04,04,806 samples including routine sample, sentinel sample, CBNAAT, Truenat, POCT, PCR, RTLAMP, antigen were sent for the tests.
None returned from the UK, South Africa and Brazil tested positive for Covid -19 in the last 24 hours. So far, 126 people including 116 UK returnees, 9 from South Africa and 1 from Brazil tested positive for the virus infection. 125 of them have recovered from the disease. So far, 11 patients have been infected with the mutant virus strain.
112 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 16,140 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 1007 patients remains unidentified.

69 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19. Among them, 14 were from Thiruvananthapuram, 10 from Ernakulam, 9 from Kannur, 8 each from Thrissur and Kasaragod, 7 from Wayanad, 6 from Palakkad, 4 from Kollam, 2 from Pathanamthitta and one from Kozhikode.
Meanwhile, 24,003 recoveries were also reported in the state.
The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram- 2236, Kollam- 1029, Pathanamthitta- 1294, Alappuzha- 949, Kottayam- 802, Idukki- 489, Ernakulam- 1778, Thrissur- 1537, Palakkad- 5108, Malappuram- 4951, Kozhikode- 1848, Wayanad- 405, Kannur- 898 and Kasargod- 679.
With this, the number of active cases touched 1,67,638 in the state. 24,40,642 people recovered from the disease so far.
6,69,815 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this 6,34,890 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 34,925 people are in hospitals. 2649 people were taken to hospitals on Saturday.
No place was added to the list of hotspots. 2 places were removed from the list. Currently, there are 870 hotspots in the state.
