Thiruvananthapuram: Devikulam MLA A Raja will swear in again due to an error in his oath taken the other day. A Raja had taken oath in Tamil. However, he did not say whether the oath was taken in the name of God or by solemn affirmation. It is pointed out that this phrase was missed when the law department translated the oath.
The MLAs had sworn in the other day in four languages including Malayalam, English Kannada and Tamil. Among them, 43 MLAs took the oath in the name of God, 13 MLAs in the name of Allah and 80 by solemn affirmation.
Manjeshwaram MLA AKM Ashraf started the linguistic diversity in the assembly by taking the oath in Kannada. Pala MLA Mani C Kappan and Muvvattupuzha MLA Mathew Kuzhalnadan took the oath in English. Like former MLA K Rajendran, Devikulam MLA A Raja chose Tamil.
As it was pointed out that there was an error in the oath, A Raja will have to swear in again. First, the oath was administered by Pro-tem Speaker PTA Rahim. However, now Speaker M B Rajesh will administer the oath to him.
A Raja won from Devikulam as CPM candidate with a margin of 7848 votes. Three other MLAs including minister V Abdurahiman, who failed to swear in earlier, also will take oath along with this. The Speaker will administer the oath to them.
