Thiruvananthapuram: Former opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala and senior Congress leader Oommen Chandy accepted the High Command's decision to elect MLA VD Satheesan as the new leader of opposition in the Kerala assembly.
Chennithala extended congratulations to the newly elected opposition leader VD Satheesan on Saturday through his Facebook page.
“High Command was in charge of selecting the Congress parliamentary party leader. I accept the High Command’s decision to elect VD Satheesan as the leader of the party. Congratulations to VD Satheesan.. wishing all the best,” wrote Chennithala on his Facebook page.
Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Oommen Chandy also welcomed the High Command’s decision.
“ High Command has informed me about selecting VD Satheesan as parliamentary party leader. All party members accept the decision,” said Oommen Chandy while reacting to the news.
“AICC has some procedures in selecting parliamentary party leader in each state. Congress senior leaders Malikarjun Kharge and Vaidayalingam reached the state to seek the opinion of all elected MLAs regarding this. The Congress parliamentary party was convened and passed a resolution to assign AICC president for electing the opposition leader. The decision was taken depending on it. Every member marked their opinion in the meeting,” added Oommen Chandy.
