Cyclone Tauktae: red alert in 9 districts

Thiruvananthapuram: As heavy rain continues to batter Kerala under the influence of cyclone Tauktae, the India Meteorological Development has sounded red alert in 9 districts in Kerala. Thrissur, Idukki, Ernakulam, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts have been placed under red alert. Meanwhile, other five districts have been put on orange alert.

Along with the 9 districts of Kerala, red alert was sounded in Lakshadweep also.

Earlier, only the northern districts of Kerala were placed under red alert.

Heavy rain will continue across the state on Sunday also due to the cyclone.
