Kozhikode: The members of Congress are mulling on a reshuffle in KPCC by removing Mullappally from the post of state president. But most of the leaders have difference of opinion in blaming Mullappally to be solely responsible for the UDF’s poor show in the assembly polls. But everyone unanimously opined that if things go like this, the party would not survive in the state.
In Assam, the state committee president of Congress has resigned from the post after taking full responsibility for the defeat in the polls. Pointing out this, members of KPCC have been demanding Mullappally’s resignation.
According to reports, a group in KPCC has been trying to bring working president K Sudhakaran as KPCC president. It is learned that many leaders from various groups have already contacted K Sudhakaran.
The party sources claimed that no meetings have been summoned to discuss reshuffle in the committee. But K Sudhakaran was planned to fly to Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday morning. As the flight services were cancelled, he aborted his plan to visit Thiruvananthapuram.
MP Hibi Eden has taken a dig at Mullappally Ramachandran through his Facebook post the other day. “Why do we still need a Sleeping President ????,” asked Hibi on his Facebook post. The post triggered a heated discussion on Mullappally’s leadership.
PC Vishnunath also hinted that the party needs honest moves to rectify the mistakes.
Meanwhile, the mouthpiece of Samastha has raised a sharp criticism against Mullappally and his followers. If Mullappally and his followers are not removed, Congress will struggle to survive, noted the daily. This news report has also influenced the party members to appeal for a change in leadership.
Reacting to the row, Congress (A) group leader KC Joseph stated that the party needs a major reorganization.
“I am not proposing for a reorganization pointing finger at a particular person. A major reshuffle is necessary from the lower committees of the party,” said KC Joseph.
A large group of leaders believe that the party will improve a lot if K Sudhakaran is appointed as KPCC president.
Meanwhile, Mullappally is confident to continue in the post with the support from High Command. He holds a close relationship with AK Antony and KC Venugopal. He used to take decision on party affairs after holding talks with Ramesh Chennithala and Oommen Chandy. But many leaders including K Sudhakaran and K Muraleedharan are disappointed with Mullappally’s working style.
