Thiruvananthapuram: A major revamp in Congress leadership looks likely in all probability. Ramesh Chennithala may follow the model of Oommen Chandy who stepped down from leadership after facing the poll debacle in 2016.
Even Congress leaders have started mumbling that people are not believing the words of Ramesh Chennithala as an opposition leader. According to them, the second term of Pinarayi Vijayan government proves the fact.
Now, the opposition will have to face a strong ruling party with 99 members in the assembly.
VD Satheesan who won the polls from Paravur four times is likely to become the opposition leader.
If Ramesh Chennithala is not willing to assume the post, he will also support Satheesan.
Out of the 21 newly elected Congress MLAs, 10 belong to (I) group. Among the senior leaders, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan and PT Thomas are likely to be considered for the post.
Thiruvanchoor is the senior in the assembly after Oommen Chandy and Chennithala.
At the present situation, Satheesan’s talent in presenting various subjects and his public support as a young leader will favour him as the leader of the opposition.
When Sudheeran was KPCC president, Satheesan was appointed as KPCC vice president as he was nominated by Rahul Gandhi.
