Kollam: R Balakrishna Pillai’s link with the Nair Service Society (NSS) was beyond his politics. The KC(B) leader who started social work along with social reformer Mannath Padmanabhan always had a strong affinity towards the NSS.
R Balakrishna Pillai joined NSS at the age of 24. Irrespective of politics, he managed to be loyal to the NSS in his life. He admired NSS more than his party, claim sources close to him.
Mannath Padmanabhan asked Balakrishna Pillai to actively engage in the activities of NSS.
Following this, NSS appointed him as founder secretary of Kerala Congress, which was first founded by Mannath Padmanabhan in 1964.
Though he had difference of opinion with the NSS leadership, he used to visit the memorial of Mannam during every birth anniversary to paying floral tributes.
Balakrishna Pillai breathed his last on Monday ending 6 decades of long community activities under NSS.
