Kottayam: UDF candidate Mani C Kappan is heading to retain power in Pala in the assembly polls. After four hours of the vote counting, the trends show that Kappan is leading against LDF candidate Jose K Mani. Mani C Kappan is leading in Pala by 11246 votes.
Pala seat was in the spotlight during the polls as Mani C Kappan left NCP and joined UDF over seat-sharing dispute. Kappan’s victory has proven that his decision to join UDF was not wrong.
In 2019, Mani C Kappan contested as LDF candidate in the Pala bypoll which was held following the demise of KM Mani. He defeated UDF candidate Jose Tom Pulikkunnel by a margin of 2943 votes.
As he won the seat after facing continuous defeat from KM Mani, he was not ready to surrender Pala seat to Jose K Mani. Following a dispute in LDF and NCP, Kappan left NCP and joined hands with UDF after forming a new party.
The initial trends of the poll results in Pala hint that even LDF voters were not ready to accept Jose K Mani.
