Malappuram: CPM has taken efforts to resolve the disputes over candidate selection in Ponnani constituency. It is learnt that the party may replace P Nandakumar with K T Jaleel from Ponnani.
The decision was taken in view of the protests against Nandakumar in Ponnani.
Ponnani is the lone seat won with the party symbol in Malappuram district. Hence, CPM is not ready to lose the seat.
It is hinted that CPM is planning to shift P Nandakumar from Ponnani taking into account the protests against him in the local committee.
Sources close to party circles also hinted of plans to field MB Rajesh from Ponnani seat. As Tavanur and Ponnani are nearby constituencies, Jaleel has good public support in both constituencies. Observing this, the party hopes that Jaleel will ensure victory in Ponnani too.
Meanwhile, the CPM state committee has directed to give seat to P Nandakumar. Based on this, the party is considering his candidature for Tavanur.
