Thrissur: Guruvayur Devaswom Board has reported that three women including minister Kadakampally Surendran’s wife visited the fames Sri Krishna Temple here amid the ban on entry of devotees over spike in COVID-19 cases.
In the report filed in High Court, Devaswom administrator Breeja Kumari claimed that the women visited the temple strictly abiding by the COVID-19 protocol.
BJP leader Nagesh from Thrissur had approached the High Court seeking the CCTV visuals of the women who visited the temple violating COVID-19 restrictions imposed.
Following this, the HC sought an explanation from the Devaswom Board.
Devaswom minister’s wife, accompanied by two women, arrived Guruvayur on November 24 to have darshan at the temple. They paid obeisance at the temple on November 25, at 7 am in the presence of Devaswom chairman and two members.
Devaswom Commissioner and his wife were also present at the ‘Nalambalam’. The minister’s wife who underwent a surgery recently sought permission from the Devaswom representatives to enter ‘Nalamblam’ and have darshan during ‘Nirmalayam’, the report said.
In the explanation, Devaswom also claimed that permission for darshan was granted considering the health problems of the minister’s wife. They stated that the government had not banned the entry to ‘Nalambalam’ in the order which banned the entry of devotees to the temple.
But following the ban on entry of devotees, visitors were only allowed till the entrance of the temple.
