Thiruvananthapuram: LDF regained power in Thiruvananthapuram corporation by securing lead in 52 seats. Though, a triangular fight was expected in the corporation, a neck and neck fight between LDF and NDA occurred from the initial hours of counting.

LDF has already crossed the absolute majority of 50 by winning 52 seats. Compared to the previous polls, LDF has secured more votes this time.

When BJP secured 34 seats, UDF obtained 10 seats in the corporation.

LDF was leading in the corporation from the initial hours of counting. Voters were curious about the results in the corporation as BJP took the lead leaving LDF in the second position by noon. But within 7 hours of counting, LDF won 52 seats.

It is assumed that the campaign against LDF over the gold smuggling case has backfired on UDF in the polls.

Meanwhile, LDF faced setback after former mayor and mayor candidates faced defeat. Mayor K Sreekumar was defeated by BJP candidate TG Kumaran in Karikkakam ward.

At the same time, LDF’s mayor candidates S Pushpalatha and professor AG Oleena were also defeated.
