Kannur: A voter was detained for allegedly trying to cast a bogus vote at Kadannappally Panapuzha panchayat here in the local body polls on Monday.

The accused was identified as Murfid, who arrived at the booth in ward 6 of Panapuzha panchayat. Meanwhile, CPM alleged that the accused is a member of the Muslim League.

According to reports, Murfid arrived at the booth to cast a vote in the name of his brother Murshid, who is currently working in UAE.

He was taken into custody after LDF activists, who identified the impersonation, reported the matter to the officials at the polling booth.
