Palakkad: The State Election Commission has directed that only KSRTC buses should be used for transportation of staff for election duty. Private buses will be used only in case of emergency, the commission said.

With the COVID-19 outbreak, buses in most of the KSRTC buses are not operating service. In view of this, the State Election Commission has observed that the staff on election duty will get enough buses for commutation.

Buses which are not taking service might need some maintenance works. These works should be completed within a week. Following the lockdown, repair works were carried out only for a few buses.

DTOs in each KSRTC depot and sub depot are directed to collect details of the available buses after recieving the order from the commission.

The survey of the buses has already started in most of the districts. It is learned that the survey will be completed within 2 days.

The State Election Commission officials have clarified that a final decision on using KSRTC buses for election duty will be taken only after examining the survey report.
