Kochi: M Sivasankar, former principal secretary to Chief Minister, has been named as accused in the dollar smuggling case too.
Swapna Suresh and others who were booked in gold smuggling and dollar smuggling case have revealed that they smuggled dollar during four trips along with Sivasankar.
In her statement to the probe team, Swapna confirmed that Sivasankar was aware of the dollar smuggling. She had convinced Sivasankar that she will deposit the money abroad.
With the dollar smuggling case, the customs have registered the second case against Sivasankar. He is named as 23rd accused in the gold smuggling case.
Earlier, customs officials have received information that Sivasankar intervened to exchange the Indian currency to dollars.
Meanwhile, Sivasankar dismissed the statement of Swapna as baseless. He is continuing to claim innocence over the dollar smuggling case.
