Thrissur: When the district is all set to host the grand Thrissur Pooram, Thrissur district collector TV Anupama informed that a final decision on parading the popular elephant Thechikottukavu Ramachandran for the Pooram festivities will be taken by the High Court. She asserted that the court order will be implemented and refused to comment on a subject which is under the consideration of court.
The collector was addressing the media on the arrangements for Thrissur Pooram. She informed that there are some restrictions in parading elephants at the festival. Elephants which are physically not fit including the elephants which are in a state of musth will not be allowed to be taken to Thrissur town from May 12 to 14.
“Parading of some elephants is banned for the Pooram. The ban is not lifted yet. The ban was not issued for any particular elephant. The district authority used to issue the ban order related to elephants in connection with Thrissur Pooram every year. It is annually issued as a general direction. Thrissur Pooram committee used to take elephants by obeying this order. Veterinary doctors examine elephants and give fitness certificate regarding this. Every year, we implement this order during the Pooram,” explained the district collector.
Sample fireworks on May 11She informed that sample fireworks related to the Pooram festivities will be held on May 11 from 7 pm to 9pm. Paramekkavu temple will display sample fireworks from 7 pm to 9 pm and Thiruvambady’s fireworks will be displayed from 7 pm to 8.30 pm.
The main fireworks will be displayed in on May 14 the early morning. Paramekkavu’s firework display is scheduled from 3 am to 6 am and Thiruvambady will display fireworks from 3 am to 5 am.
On May 14, the day of Pakal Pooram, fireworks of Paramekkavu will be held from 11.30 am to 2 pm and Thiruvambady’s fireworks will surprise all from 12.30 pm to 1.30 pm.
Special officials have been deployed to ensure safety. Executive magistrates will be assigned to monitor fireworks.
Liquor ban on Pooram dayAt the same time, the district authority strictly banned sale and consumption of drugs and liquor on May 13 from 6 pm to 2 pm within corporation limits.
Drones, helicam, laser lights etc are banned within the corporation limit. Tube balloons which cover the sight are also banned. Use of whistles and equipment which blow loudly are restricted during the rituals in Pooram.
People who arrive to witness the Pooram must avoid shoulder bags.
The district administration will ensure ambulance facility in more places. More LED screens will be displayed in the town to watch the Pooram festivities. Nodal offices of all departments will be arranged. Food safety departments are directed to carry out continuous inspections.
