Thiruvananthapuram: DGP Loknath Behera directed police personnel to be more vigilant following the violence in the state over young women entry in Sabarimala temple. The state police chief also asked Kannur district police chief to take immediate action and to arrest the people involved in the violence including attack against houses of political leaders.
“In Kannur, police arrested 19 people in preventive custody yesterday night in the background of the violence in Thalassery,” asserted DGP.
In Pathanamthitta district, 76 cases were registered over the Sabarimala protest related violence. 110 people were arrested and 204 people were held in preventive custody in the district, said DGP in a press release.
Meanwhile, 9 cases were registered at Adoor in Thiruvananthapuram.
More police force deployed in Kannur
In view of continuing violence in Thalassery, more police personnel have been deployed at Thalassery and nearest places yesterday. A huge battalion of police led by Kannur police chief is camping in Thalassery.
It is reported that more police personnel will be deployed from Kozhikode and Wayanad.
However, police force from Kannur AR camp was deployed at Iritty and Thalassery on Friday. The department asked the officials on leave to immediately re-join duty.
Police force has been put on high alert in order to control violence in the state.
