Water, water everywhere....Pots, buckets to collect water in classroom

Adoor: Teachers and students at Puthusserybhagam Govt LP School are having a tough time this monsoon. The leaky roofs of classrooms are affecting classes here.

Buckets and pots are placed in all classrooms to collect rain water. It is not a rain harvesting method but a precaution to check flood in classroom from the heavy rain.

Apart from taking classes, teachers are struggling to keep the children safe from the rain inside the classroom too.

The Govt. School was established in 1947. The school building never had any maintenance work since its establishment. It functions in the old dilapidated building. When other government schools are turning into digital classrooms and getting upgraded, this school which was established during the national freedom period is still neglected by the authorities.

Nobody is taking initiative to either repair the building or convert the classrooms into smart classrooms here.

The school is in a pathetic condition for a long time. During rain, teachers are forced to lay buckets in the classrooms and wipe the floor with sacks to check water logging.

Even basic infrastructure facilities are not provided to the school. According to teachers, they have informed the matter to the MLA in the area. But no action was taken to protect the school.

Though there is a big playground in the school, it is found with thickets and shrubs.

Parents are also demanding to maintain the school by preserving its heritage.

“The school is in a dangerous condition. I have informed the matter to the panchayat after finding leakages in classrooms. PWD was assigned to prepare the estimate for the repair work. But they neglected it. It is a serious negligence," said Gramapanchayat member S Biji.
