Keezhattur farmers' stir: CPM men set afire protest venue
Keezhattur: Police on Wednesday arrested and removed a group of farmers who have been protesting against levelling paddy fields at Keezhattur in Kannur district to acquire land for a highway project.
CPM activists set on fire the protest venue erected by the farmers’ group ‘Vayalkili’.
Earlier, the agitating farmers raised suicide threat by dousing themselves in kerosene.
The protestors intensified their stir after the Revenue authorities reached the farm land accompanied by the police. As many as 100 people, including women doused in kerosene, reached the protest venue.
The farmers said that this piece of land belonged to the farmers and is their livelihood.
