Kochi: Kunnathunad MLA P V Sreenijin has apologised for the incident in which several children --attending U17 football selection trial-- had to wait for hours outside a school ground in Panamapally Nagar after the district sports council authorities did not open the gates on Monday morning.
Sreenijin alleged Kerala Blasters didn't seek prior permission to conduct the trials on the ground owned by the Ernakulam district sports council. The move from Sreenijin came in the wake of Blasters' planning to take legal action in the case.
By calling the incident a "conspiracy" by Blasters and State Sports Council, the CPM MLA alleged that the state body has attempted to gain control of the ground owned by the district council.
CPM MLA P V Sreenijin has been receiving flak after his apparent intervention resulted in the disruption of U-17 selection trials of Kerala Blasters at the Kerala State Sports Council ground in Panampilly Nagar on Monday.
The entrance to the ground remained shut in the morning, leaving hundreds of children to wait outside in the soaring summer heat. However, the authorities concerned were forced to open the gates after the MLA received flak for his decision.
