Malayali student in Mangaluru dies by suicide after tortured over delay in fee payment

Mangaluru: A 19-year old Malayali nursing student reportedly hanged herself from the ventilation in the toilet of her hostel room in Mangaluru on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Neena Sathish, a native of Chittarikkal, Kasargod. She was a first year nursing student in Colaco School of Nursing.

Seeing her hanging, roommates informed hostel authorities and she was taken to a nearby private hospital. However, she died on Wednesday morning.

According to college authorities and police, the girl was upset as she couldn’t pay fees. Meanwhile, there are allegations that the college authorities and an agent involved in girl’s admission process mentally tortured her.

On Wednesday, the dead body of the girl was shifted to Payyanur Cooperative hospital. The funeral will be held on Thursday.

The student is the daughter of Jancy, while her father left them abandoned earlier. Jancy is working at a shop in Cherupuzha. The siblings of the deceased are Aleena and Alfred.
