Palakkad: The Kasaba police nabbed the prime accused in the national highway road heist case from a private hospital here in Thrissur.
Shabeek,38, allegedly stole Rs 3.55 crore from a car by blocking the road at Puthussery Fly Over. He used cars and other vehicles to block the road. The incident happened on December 15, 2021. Shabeek attacked the driver and passengers before getting away with the car and money. Later, he abandoned the car near Lakidi Railway gate. Police had earlier nabbed other accused in the case.
A case was registered and the investigation was initiated by the Kasaba Police. Shabeek's fingerprint was identified from the car he abandoned at Lakidi. Shabeek was absconding and was hiding under the name Ajeesh. However, he was identified and arrested after he met with a car accident and admitted to a private hospital in Thrissur.
Police said that more than 15 cases related to robbery, murder, drugs and other cases were registered against him. He was produced before the court on Tuesday and remanded.
