Thrissur: Minister R Bindu on Saturday handed over the full amount owed by scam-hit Karuvannur bank to the family of Philomena, a depositor, who died after the bank refused to hand over money for her treatment.

Minister R Bindu visited their house and handed over the bank deposit to Philomena's husband.

Minister said that people need not panic about losing the money deposited in the bank. The remark came after R Bindu handed over Rs 23 lakh to Devassy, Philomena's husband. Rs 21 lakh was handed over as a check and the remaining in cash.

Meanwhile, the state government had taken immediate measures to make Rs 35 crore available in the bank. Rs 25 crore will be allotted by the Kerala Co-operative Development and Welfare Fund.
