Karnataka Forest Dept setting free elephant showing signs of disturbance
Sulthan Bathery: An elephant showing signs of getting restive is often set free by the Karnataka Forest Department at Moolahalla in Bandipur range and this practice is posing threat to commuters on the national highway.
Though the elephant is brought to forest with its legs chained, the officials never used to tie it to trees. The animal further enters the main road, destroy vehicles, and attack people.
Unfortunately, the Forest Department refuses to take any action even if they are informed. Besides, the animal used to pick up fights with wild elephants.
On the other hand, the forest officials who reach the spot, are venting their anger on the people present on the spot. They even cane charged the locals, leading to tension.
The other day, the elephant had blocked a tanker lorry and tried to attack the driver. However, he managed to escape. The animal then turned to a KSRTC bus. On Sunday, it blocked traffic for nearly two hours.
