Karipur gold smuggling: Shafi to be quizzed on July 12

Kochi: Karipur gold smuggling case accused Muhammed Shafi appeared before Customs officials for interrogation. He came with his lawyer. Earlier, the Customs had received a statement that Shafi and Kodi Suni offered protection for gold smuggling.

The Customs served notice to Shafi asking him to appear before them on Wednesday. However, he could not appear as he was affected with food poisoning. The lawyer informed the Customs officials that he would come on Thursday. With this, the Customs forwarded notice directing him to appear on July 12.

However, Muhammed Shafi appeared before Customs on Thursday at 11 in the morning. However, the Customs officials sent him back and directed to come again on July 12. They said that the officials are busy with some other cases and that is why they sent him back.

The Customs summoned Shafi on the basis of the statement of Arjun Aayanki. Shafi who is accused in TP Chandrasekharan murder case is currently out on parole. Arjun used to attract more people to their gang in the name of Shafi and Kodi Suni, it is learnt. Customs had collected evidence for this.
