Karipur gold smuggling: Police nab key member of gang that came to attack Arjun Aayanki

Kondotty: The police have nabbed the key member of Thamarassery quotation gang that came to attack Arjun Aayanki and gang in Karipur gold smuggling case. Koodathai native Shihab (37) was arrested by DYSP K Ashraf and team. With this, the number of people arrested in connection with the case rose to 19.

Shihab was arrested from a hideout in Thamarassery Adivaram. Shihab and team reached Karipur on June 21 after being assigned to attack Arjun and gang with a tipper lorry, the police said.

As Arjun turned off the headlight and sped up the car, the gang’s plan failed. Five youngsters who followed Arjun’s vehicle were killed in a road mishap at Ramanattukara. They were part of the Cherpulassery gang.

A Special Investigation Team had arrested Abdul Nasar who belongs to Shihab’s gang a few days ago. On knowing this, Shihab absconded. DYSP Ashraf said that more details can be collected after interrogating Shihab.
