Karipur flight crash: 1 person yet to be identified; 14 critically injured

Karipur: A total of 18 deaths were confirmed so far and 14 people are critically injured in the flight crash in Karipur airport, said Malappuram collector K Gopalakrishnan. The relatives of 17 out of the 18 deceased were contacted. Only one person remains to be identified, the collector stated.

Some people are in ventilator and the surgery of some others are progressing. Also a few of the injured have already undergone surgery. There were 190 passengers in the flight and four among them are flight staff. Those who sustained serious injuries have been admitted to Baby Memorial Hospital and Medical College hospital in Kozhikode, he added.

All 18 dead bodies are kept at the medical college. The bodies will be handed over to the relatives after completing post-mortem as early as possible following the COVID protocol, the collector told the media.

The rescue operation was successful. 188 passengers could be taken out of the debris within an hour of the mishap. As district administrator, I assure on behalf of the government that the injured people will be provided the best treatment, the collector made it clear.
