Kozhikode: Karat Faisal will contest the LSG polls as an independent candidate. This decision has been taken after he was told not to contest the election.

Karat Faisal will contest from Chudappuram 15th division in Koduvally Municipality. He will submit his nomination on Thursday.

INL had removed Karat Faisal after his candidature became a controversy following his interrogation in connection with the gold smuggling case. He was replaced by INL Municipality General Secretary OP Rasheed. However, Faisal decided not to withdraw from the election.

CPM had asked Faisal not to contest in the election after INL’s decision to field him without taking into account the public’s sentiment was discussed across the state. Karat Faisal had started his campaign works very early.

Political opponents point out that since Karat Faisal has decided to contest, INL’s candidate will act as a dummy. Chundappuram seat was handed over to INL by CPM. CPM demanded Faisal’s removal after the opponents made a controversy out of it in the initial stage itself.
