Alappuzha: The Supreme Court on Tuesday said that all the buildings of the illegally constructed Kapico Resort at Panavally must be demolished, failing to which action will be taken against the chief secretary for contempt of court. The hearing of the plea seeking action against the chief secretary has been adjourned to next Monday.

State standing counsel CK Sasi, who appeared for the chief secretary, informed the court that all the 54 cottages at Kapico Resort have been demolished completely and only the main building is left to be brought down.

However, the court bench comprising Justices Aniruddha Bose and Sudhanshu Dhulia was not satisfied with the explanation and warned of taking action against the chief secretary. Following this, the chief secretary told the court that the affidavit regarding the demolition will be filed on Friday.

Furthermore, advocates K Parameswar and A Karthik appeared for the fishermen and claimed that demolishing the resort without conducting proper scientific and environmental studies could adversely impact the lives of plants and animals in Vembanad lake. The court was not ready to set aside the demolition drive. However, it directed the state government to take into account environmental matters while demolishing the resort.
