Gopinath Raveendran

Thiruvananthapuram: The Special Vigilance Court scrapped the petition filed by Congress leader Jyothikumar Chamakkala alleging nepotism on the side of the Kerala Chief Minister in appointing Dr Gopinath Raveendran as the vice chancellor of Kannur University.

The court observed that the petitioner failed to prove if the vice chancellor or chief minister secured any financial gains following the appointment.

The petition was filed on the basis of Governor Arif Mohammed Khan’s allegations against the CM. The governor had accused the CM of visiting him and claiming that he has special interest over the appointment of Kannur University VC as the varsity is situated in his district.

The CM’s statement showing special consideration in the case of a particular district was a violation of his oath of office, alleged the petitioner.
