Kannur: A Kannur panchayat member has allegedly threatened workers under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) asking them to compulsorily partake in the CPM rally lest they will not be given work.

The member has been identified as C Suchithra of Ward 1 of Mayyil gram panchayat in Kannur. She has reportedly sent an audio message to the workers’ WhatsApp group asking them to participate in the People’s Resistance Rally led by CPM state secretary MV Govindan.

She also asked those who could not take part in the rally to call her directly. The audio message was released by the MGNREGS workers of the panchayat.

When asked about the issue, Suchithra admitted that she had sent the voice message. However, she was not ready to comment further.
