Cheruvanchery: The hotel ‘Anusha fast food’ has a special offer on Sivarathri nights. The food is free here on this day. This teashop, which belongs to Nellarachal native P P Valsan, next to Panoor road in Cheruvanchery town, has been following this tradition for the past seven years.
The hotel gets very crowded in the evenings. Sivarathri nights see much more rush, thanks to all the free food. Valsan's wife and his three children help him around with the work in the shop. Valsan, an ardent devotee of Lord Siva, has been running his shop on Panoor Road in Cheruvanchery for 16 years. Eights years ago, his shop was attacked by a group of anti-socials, which affected him very much.
Being a devotee of Siva, he resolved to observe fasting on the night of Sivarathri and give free food to people on that night. The shop is open from 10 am till late in the evening. When people from the outside offer him the money for the food they ordered, he turns it down kindly and informs them about the service he's doing. He served food to nearly 300 people on this year’s Sivarathri. Valsan said that the satisfaction seen on the faces of people after eating food from his shop makes his earnings for the day.
