Pythons seized from Rajdhani Express
Kannur: The Railway Protection Force booked a contract staff in the A2 coach of Rajdhani Express, after seizing a plastic box with four pythons from the train. The custody of the accused Kamalkanth Sharma (40) and the pythons were handed over to the Kozhikode RPF inspector. The information has been passed to the forest department of the state.
The accused was caught red-handed when he was attempting to hand over the box with snakes to someone when the train reached Kannur railway station. The customer informed the RPF officials that the snakes cost Rs 3 lakh.
The incident happened in Nizamuddin-Thiruvananthapuram Rajdhani Express (12432) on Thursday evening. When the train reached Kannur, the escorting ASI and team spotted Kamalkanth Sharma coming out of the coach with a plastic box. While receiving the box, the customer found the officials, who were observing them. He escaped from the station without taking the box. The different coloured pythons were found when the officials checked the box later.
Kamalkanth said that a stranger had entrusted the box at Vasai road station by misleading him that they were medicines for cancer treatment. The stranger had told him that a person will arrive at Kannur railway station to receive it. Meanwhile, the RPF officials directed Kamalkanth to ring up the 'customer' again and ask him to reach Kozhikode station to receive it. RPF inspector Upendra Kumar and team arrested the man when he arrived at the Kozhikode station to collect the snakes.
