Kannur: Kannur consumer court slapped a Rs 25,000 fine on a bus conductor and owner for forcing a person to alight on the road. The move comes over the complaint complainant lodged by artist Sasikala, who is also the Kannur District President of Kerala State Consumer Council.
The court has directed the bus conductor N Rajesh and owner N Rajesh of ‘Sri Mookambika’ limited stop bus (KL 58 S 8778), operating under Madhavi Motors, to pay the compensation within a month. If they fail to do so, they will have to pay another 9 percent interest to the complainant as well, the court noted.
The complaint pertains to an incident that happened on August 15, 2018. Sasikala had boarded the bus from Kannur to attend a marriage at Kalliasseri bank auditorium. However, bus staffers forced him to get off at Puthiyatheru.
Sasikala in his complaint highlighted that the conductor got furious at him without any provocation when he asked for a ticket for Kalliasseri. It is said that the conductor and the cleaner forced hurled abuses at Sasikala and forced him to get off at Puthiyatheru.
After the incident, the artist had Sasikala filed a complaint with Kannur Traffic Police and RTO. He cited that Kalliasseri was a stop recognised by the RTO. In response, the Traffic SI put a fine of Rs 500 on the bus operators.
Later, he approached Kannur Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum demanding further compensation. The verdict on the complaint comes two years after.
