Kannur airport road development: CM directs to speed up land acquisition
Kannur: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan directed the officials to speed up the land acquisition procedures for the road development related to Kannur airport. The chief minister summoned a meeting to discuss the road developemt on Tuesday at Thiruvananthapuram.
Pinarayi Vijayan recommended to determine the alignment and speed up the land acquisition. He also asked Kannur district collector to hold discussions with local leaders and public representatives for this purpose.
Six roads will be developed to ease the traffic to the airport. Kerala Road Fund Board has appointed Infrastructure Development Corporation (Karnataka) Limited as consultant to prepare the master plan of three roads. Public Works Department and National Highway Authority of India will undertake the work of two roads each. KIIFB will develop one road under this project.
The government has taken decision on the alignment of Thalassery-Koduvally-Ancharakandi- Mattannur road. The government has handed over the related documents to revenue department and given approval for land acquisition.
The officials have completed the data collection to prepare a detailed project report on the development of the road on the stretch of Kuttiyadi-Nadapuram-Peringathur-Mekkunnu-Panur-Pookode-Koothuparamba-Mattannur.
The third road stretching from Manathavady to Mattannur will be connected with Kottityoor wildlife sanctuary. Hence, Forest department, Public Works Department and consultancy jointly carried out an inspection to determine the boundary of the wildlife sanctuary and carry out a survey. Two lane road will be constructed in the forest area.
Koottupuzha bridge-Iritty-Mattannur-Vayanthode road is a proposed national highway. The construction of this road is on progress under Kerala State Transport Project (KSTP). The work will be completed by October 30.
National Highway Authority of India has completed the data collection to prepare a detailed project report on the Mele Chowa-Chalode-Vayanthode-Mattannur-airport road.
KIIFB has submitted an estimate for the construction of the road stretching Taliparamba-Chorukala-Nanicherikadavu bridge-Mayyil-Chalode.
Minister EP Jayarajan, G Sudhakaran, KK Shailaja and MLA Sunny Joseph attended the meeting. Chief secretary Tom Jose, Finance additional chief secretary Manoj Joshi, PWD principal secretarty Kamala Vardhana Rao and Kannur district collector TV Subash attended the meeting.
