Kannur airport: Not interested in controversies, says Oommen Chandy
Kottayam: Former chief minister Oommen Chandy stated that he does not want to create controversies for not being invited for the inaugural ceremony of Kannur International Airport. This is a joyful moment. The UDF government had decided to complete the construction of the airport in 2017, he told the media.
The construction was progressing according to schedule till the UDF government was in power. A slight change in the schedule occurred after a panchayat led by CPM did not cooperate for land acquisition and quarrying of rocks, Oommen Chandy said. The people cannot be misled and they really know what happened, he added.
The first passenger flight from Kannur airport took off to Abu Dhabi at around 10.15 am on Sunday. Former chief ministers Oommen Chandy and V. S. Achuthanandan were not invited to the inaugural ceremony. UDF boycotted the event in protest over this.
