Mattannur: Arrangements have almost reached the final phase for the inauguration. The Kannur International Airport is almost ready for the big day on December 9. The venue construction has been 60 per cent completed. It is built on 1.20 lakh sq. ft. near the air traffic control building. The inaugural ceremony will be staged on this venue.
The venue will be facilitated for 120 people including ministers and other people's representatives. There will be special seating for shareholders and those who donated land for the project. Around 25,000 people could be seated in the pavilion.
All events, including flagging off the first flight, will be displayed at the inaugural venue. LED screens will be installed at the venue behind and on either sides where chief guests are seated. As the pavilion is still under construction, the LED screens will be installed after its completion.
The percussion performance (Keli kottu) by percussionist maestro Mattannur Sankarankutty will be held on the mini stage arranged in front of the venue. Cultural programmes on the day of inauguration will begin at 7.30 am.
The passengers of the first flight will be welcomed by the chief minister and Union minister. Later the terminal building will be inaugurated. The chief minister and Union minister will arrive at the venue only after flagging off the first flight.
The terminal building, ATC building and flyovers will be decorated using electric lighting. A special beamlight will be shone from the ATC building a day before the inauguration. Mattannur city, nearby towns, shops and roads will be decorated using electric lighting. The organizers and natives are planning to celebrate the airport inauguration like a festival.
