Kannur: The forensic department has sent the remains found in the car, in which a couple were charred to death on Thursday, for chemical analysis. The department said that a burnt bottle was found that had the remains of a liquid. KK Reesha (26) and her husband TV Prajith (35) died as their car caught fire while they were heading to the hospital after the former experienced labour pain.
The forensic department said that reports stating that petrol bottles were found inside the car were inaccurate. Family members of the couple said such reports were hurtful. Reesha’s father KK Viswanathan said that the two bottles inside the car contained water.
The car had six passengers. The couple were sitting in the front seats, while the other four family members were in the rear seats.
About the accident on Thursday, Viswanathan said, “When we reached near the fire force office, a burnt smell started coming out of the car. Suddenly, flames started to spread from below the steering. Prajith stopped the car and asked everyone to get out. As we were sitting in the back seat of the car, we somehow got out. By that time, the fire spread inside the car. They both could not get out. We tried to open the front doors, but in vain.”
The postmortem report of the couple states burns as the cause of death.
