Kanam backs TDB chief on requesting women not to visit Sabarimala
Thiruvananthapuram: CPI State Secretary Kanam secretary has extended his support to Travancore Devaswom Board President A Padmakumar over his remarks asking women not to visit Sabarimala during the Mandalam Makaravilakku pilgrimage season.
“There is nothing wrong in Padmakumar’s statement. Devaswom Board has informed to the court that the situation here is not favorable to implement the SC verdict,” Kanam said.
Kanam also noted that Ayyappa Jyoti, organized by Sabarimala Karma Samithi is a democratic protest measure. It need not be opposed.
Chief minister and LDF has said that it is not in the agenda of the government to force any woman between 10 and 50 to trek Sabarimala.
Government has the responsibility to implement the supreme court verdict. But 100 percent success of it can’t be guaranteed, he said.
