Kalavoor: Government PJ LP school in Kalavoor is a top-ranked in Alappuzha in terms of academic excellence. But this school had to shift its classes to open spaces and cycle shed due to lack of classrooms and seats for students. About 840 students are studying in the cramped classrooms of this school. There are only 18 classrooms available in the place of 24. The maximum capacity of students crossed 50 when it is supposed to be only 35. The teachers are also facing difficulty in managing all these students. There are not enough toilet facilities available for these students either.
A plan was formulated under the guidance of former minister T M Thomas Issac to construct six more classrooms on two floors at an expense of about Rs 1.10 crore by including it in the 2018-2019 plan fund as part of the Public Education Rejuvenation Mission. However, that did not pan out. Class 3 A is being taught with the students seated in the cycle shed. Students of certain divisions are made to sit in the front yard of the school on alternate days.
Although Mannanchery panchayat allowed Rs 10 lakhs for the toilet construction, it has not been started yet. More and more students are seeking admission at this school each year. The government has to take necessary measures to ensure a proper learning environment for these students.
