Kakkayam dam shutters opened; Heavy rain forecast for next 5 days


The shutters of the Kakkayam dam were opened by five centimetres following the rise in the water level due to torrential rains in the district. Heavy rains continue to torment the catchment areas. An alert has been issued to people living in the vicinity of the Kutiadi river. Kanjippura dam shutters have also been opened. Three spillway shutters of the dam were opened by five centimetres each.

Heavy rain and thunder alerts issued for the next five days in Kerala, the chief minister's office said.

Yellow alert has been declared in all districts except Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam on July 8, 9. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert, but as there is a possibility of heavy rain in the hilly areas. There is a need to be more cautious in the areas that have received heavy rains in the past few days.
