K Surendran to approach HC against amendment to Police Act

Section 118 (A) of the Kerala Police Act was amended in order to stop cyber attacks and defamation of individuals through social media.

Thiruvananthapuram: The BJP is moving the Kerala High Court against the amendment to Kerala Police Act. BJP state president K Surendran will file a petition in the high court.

The BJP will point out in the petition that the amendment made to the act is an infringement of the citizens rights. Section 118 (A) of the Kerala Police Act was amended in order to stop cyber attacks and defamation of individuals through social media.

However, allegations arose from many corners pointing out that the amendment will adversely affect freedom of speech and the freedom of the press. In this context, the BJP decided to approach the high court with the petition.
